Q: How does travel nursing work? A: When you apply with American Mobile Healthcare, we will act as your personal job recruiter. Based on your specialty, experience and preferred location, we will help you find travel nursing assignments that best match your needs. In some instances, you might even have the option to be a local travel nurse and stay in your hometown. Once you have accepted an assignment, we will provide you with free, private housing. We will set up and pay for your gas, electric, water and trash removal. You are only responsible for your cable and phone. We will also reimburse you for any travel expenses you incur, and will provide any support you need during your assignment. Q: How long is a typical assignment? A: Travel assignments are typically 13 weeks in length. Once you complete a 13-week assignment, you can often extend your assignment at the same facility or you can accept a new travel nursing job in a different location. If you prefer, you can return home and travel again at a later date. Basically, you are in control of your career and you can choose to work one assignment or as many as you’d like. Your contractual commitment is only for the length of one assignment. Q: How much experience do I need? A: You only need a minimum of one year of post-graduation experience as a registered nurse in an acute-care hospital setting in the United States. Q: What specialties are most in demand? A: Most RN specialties are in demand across the nation but the eight specialties that are in the greatest demand include ICU, Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, OR, ER, PICU, Labor & Delivery and Progressive Care.
